Paper Grade Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose Functions:

CMC (Carboxymethyl Cellulose) is a versatile additive widely used in the paper and paperboard industry. It provides excellent properties including adhesion, thickening, emulsification, suspension, flocculation, film formation, colloid protection, water retention, chemical stability and strong affinity with pulp fibers.

In papermaking, CMC improves paper strength, toughness and uniformity. It helps fibers and fillers disperse evenly in the pulp, enhances surface strength and smoothness, improves pigment dispersion and printing effect, and optimizes coating rheology and water retention. It also delivers better whitening and hue improvement compared with starch and polyethylene glycol, making it a highly functional paper chemical.


Main Applications

1. Coating Preparation

CMC improves coating water retention, rheology and pigment dispersion. It increases coating solid content, enhances binding strength, reduces adhesive dosage, lubricates blades, improves coating smoothness and minimizes orange peel defects.

2. Wet-End Addition

CMC strengthens fiber bonding, improves paper strength, enhances internal sizing performance and promotes fiber dispersion. It also improves retention of fines and fillers, reduces white water concentration and protects the sizing agent system.

3. Beating Optimization

CMC improves fiber lubrication and promotes fiber swelling and fibrillation. It helps maintain fiber length, increases water retention value and reduces refining energy consumption.

4. Surface Sizing

CMC forms a uniform and continuous film on the paper surface. It improves surface strength, printability, air permeability and oil resistance, and reduces surface picking and curling.

5. Other Applications
